Seven Springs Mountain Resort History

The Somerset, PA, area is home to some of the best mountain scenery, skiing, and one of the finest resorts in western Pennsylvania – Seven Springs Mountain Resort. The Laurel Highlands region has been well-known as an exceptional ski destination for generations. In the 1930s, Adolph Dupre began offering his land near Seven Springs for public skiing with accommodations including a Packard engine-powered rope tow. By the early 1940s, Dupre had installed an attractive first-class ski lodge in old English manor style, along with lights to help skiers enjoy the sport well into the night. Seven Springs Mountain Resort has been attracting skiing’s most inspiring athletes since its inception, including Francis “Flying Milkman” Schmidt, the award-winning skier from Ligonier.

At Adolph’s passing in 1955, his son, Herman Dupre, kept the skiing spirit alive. He went on to install a Poma lift in ’56 and a snowmaking system in 1960. Ongoing innovations and renovations were made throughout the years by a succession of dedicated owners with an attention to detail that kept Adolph’s original vision of a mountain paradise in mind. These have made Seven Springs Resort the magical destination it is today for skiing, golf, shooting, conferences, weddings, and many other adventures.
